every once in a while, something magical happens. the light from a sunset reflects off the surface of the ocean, and creates, if just for a fraction of a single second, beauty; the wind howls around a forest at midnight, as an owl calls to all, an echo of tranquility; the shit you took on the back bumper of your car stays there for a perilous journey of over 20 miles; the things that make life worth living. this, is not one of those things. this is a god damn boring band bio that no one ever wants to read. (but hey, at least its not filled with shitloads of boasting and crappy metaphors.)

we formed in november of 1999 (so long ago) with the still standing lineup of jim on guitar, gavin on drums, and cotter on bass and sharing that with singing duties. this lasted for a while, as we all learned together, about our instruments, each other and how to write. we played a show here and there, and did a little recording with our good friend ronnie from marion's basement. cotter didn't like his vocals, and quit as a vocalist, focusing on bass.

we looked a bit for a new singer, and ended up trying out our now friend keri lynn. although there was discrepency in the musical styles, we, never afraid to give something a shot... uh.. gave her a shot, and she was in. thus started the first era of downside. we played quite a few shows during that time, and met alot of great bands and had a great time, but something wasn't right. keri, although a great singer and a talented person (especially considering she was 2 years younger then us), just wasn't right for us, and we parted ways, creative differences if you will (cheese.).

thus began, the dark ages of downside, we spent a near 6 months looking for a singer, trying out all our friends, and there never was anyone who seemed to fit as the fourth member we needed. we didn't need a singer, we needed a brother. times were rough, writing was hard and uninspired, but then a light broke thru the darkness. jim was hanging out around town and bumped into a friend from school he didn't know well. they talked about the band for a bit, and next thing we knew, tex was singing with us in our bandroom. magic? no... just dirty kids, but happy dirty kids nontheless. downside was complete.
